Easter Eggstravaganza!

“Mimi, angs (eggs)!” My darling 2½ year old grandson shouted with delight when he spied the very real-looking speckled eggs in my open box of Easter decorations. What a wonderful age! I never understood the phrase “terrible twos.”  I absolutely love this stage! Everything is new and exciting. Each day is exhilarating. There is a wonder and an innocence that is enviable. Even when it is tough being two, I find these little creatures hilarious. And the best part is that these little children adore all who care for them, making us delight in them even more!

Thomas is quite curious yet he appreciates the difference in the things he is allowed to play with and those that are “not for you” (what his parents gently say to teach him boundaries). I could have distracted him with a puzzle or outdoor play, but Easter decorations…their very essence is whimsical, youthful, so I encouraged him!

He was enthralled with the shiny golden egg and the “bummies” (bunnies). He picked up the wooden woven Easter basket and examined the bright green grass, feeling the crunchy texture. But it was those eggs, those delicate speckled eggs that held his interest.

His enthusiasm was so infectious, that I decided we should take those decorative eggs outside with that basket and have an Easter egg hunt! We had so much fun. As he caught on, I made the game more challenging. We did this over a number of hours and then days. Each time, I made the hunt more challenging and his engagement increased. I upped the ante as well: I filled some bright plastic eggs with candy. I filled; Thomas found; Thomas ate; I filled again…he is now ready for the Easter Bunny!

Oh, how I adore watching that little boy become all he was created to be. I delight in seeing him figure things out. I love saying “yes” to everything I can, and gently guiding him when things are “not for you.” And I love him as deeply and fiercely as I love his Daddy.

How much more our heavenly Father loves us. He delights in our joy. He is interested in every single part of our lives. He is proud of us, sad with us. He loves us enough to say yes; he loves us enough to say not for you, or not for you right now.  He loved us before we were born; so much so that with us in mind, He sent his beloved Son to dwell among us and to lay down His own life so that we could live forever in Heaven, in restored relationship with our loving Father. Heaven. A place where all things are new, wonderous, and perfect. And that is worth celebrating!

Happy Easter and Happy egg hunting!

If you then, evil (sinful by nature) as you are, know how to give good and advantageous gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven (perfect as He is) give what is good and advantageous to those who keep on asking him. Matthew 7:11 AMP

  1. ahhhh, Melanie!!!

I absolutely loved this message and your comparison of God’s infinite love for all of us. Thomas is one very lucky little boy, as is his baby brother!

We spent Easter with our new & precious little granddaughter, Harper, as we all enjoyed being with her for this first! She is perfect and still just a tiny sweet pea at 3 weeks. So fun to see her ‘funcles’, Anson and Elliott, falling in love with her too!

    love and miss you 💗

  2. Beautiful insight and love the joy of Thomas’s curiosity; his awe and wonder of life’s possibilities and adventures as a little.
